6 fundraising events in 6 weeks: Collaborating with passionate people to raise funds for the causes we care about....

Every since Grow opened 5 years ago, we’ve been committed to helping raise vital funds for the causes we care about. We usually host between 1-2 fundraising events a month, but over 6 weeks in May and June, we had a marathon of our own and squeezed in 6 events. We work in collaboration with our partners to organise these events and where people give up their skills, time and talent for the causes they are passionate about.

6 FUNDRAISING EVENTS IN 6 WEEKS

1) The amazing Heliocentrics returned to Grow’s stage for a special performance to raise funds for Herbalists Without Borders who are a grass roots organisation providing herbal medicine for herbal healthcare to people fleeing conflict, persecution and intolerable living conditions.

2) In the same week, Love Music, Hate Racism brought a whole host of local talent or their fundraiser, including: BB James, Jed Payne, Holly Holden, The Nominees and DJ Ohcee. Proceeds from the event help the Love Music, Hate Racism team to use the energy and vibrancy of the music scene to promote unity and tackle racism through education and events.

3) Extinction Rebellion took over for all-day festival of live music, block printing and workshops with a full and eclectic programme including Alice Callari, Super Full Moon, Bamboo Smoke, Smiley & The Underclass, Alissa Skorik (Alberto Rettore) and Liba Ravindran . It was organised by Extinction Rebellion Haringey, Extinction Rebellion Hackney (EAST LND) and AM Productions and 100% proceeds go to support XR Hackney projects and other London groups to facilitate more outreach events.

4) On a Tuesday evening in May, the People's Film Club & Divest Hackney hosted a film night to show a documentary film about the sustainability called TOMORROW. Proceeds from the event support EcoACTIVE Education, a charity which provides hands-on, practical environmental education to children.

5) In May 2018, our friend Kevin Headley suddenly passed away. Many people knew and loved Kevin as he was an amazing force and continues to be missed by many. Kevin was involved in many music and art projects across London (including hosting our open mic night and art fesitvals) but he also worked tirelessly to support charities and people experiencing homelessness, including The Big Issue Foundation and Groundswell UK so to celebrate his life we had open decks and live music event in his memory to help raise money for the above charities and the British Heart Foundation.

6) We're big fans of the work of local mental health charity Core Arts in Hackney and have raised money for them at our Hackney Half Marathon After-Party for the past few years. This year, one the Grow team, Anthony Nidis, ran the 13.1 miles to raise funds and we also donated some money taken at the bar during the pary where legendary DJ Dominic Benjamin graced the decks.

Join the team to run the Hackney Half on Sun 19 May and support Core Arts!

At Grow, we're big fans of the work of Core Arts in Hackney so for the 3rd year in a row we're putting a team of runners together to take on the Hackney Half Marathon on Sun 19 May 2019 to help support them!

This 13.1 mile route takes you all around Hackney and goes past both Grow and Core Arts along the way so we think it's the perfect combo to get fit, have fun and raise some money for this amazing charity - all at the same time.

Core Arts has 24 years promoting positive mental health and wellbeing through creative learning. Providing quality education, training, employment and social enterprise initiatives that enable people who experience mental health issues to overcome barriers, fulfil their potential and participate fully in their community.

They also work with our partners at Hackney Wick Boulder Project on an amazing project to help people with mental health issues as part of our Mental Wellbeing Boulder Project

Everyday they show how art, commununity can change lives and demonstrate just how vital art is.... Let's come together to show our support!

TEAM GROW raises over £2,000 for Mental Health Charity 'Core Arts' on Hackney Half Marathon day

On Sunday 20 May, the 8 runners of TEAM GROW took on the Hackney Half Marathon.  For most of them it was their first half marathon so they needed inspiration to take on this 13.1 mile challenge... they found it in the amazing work of local mental health charity 'Core Arts'!

With over 24 years experience of promoting positive mental health and wellbeing through creative learning, Core Arts provides quality education, training, employment and social enterprise initiatives that enable people who experience mental health issues to overcome barriers, fulfil their potential and participate fully in their community.

The morning of Sunday 20 May came.  It was a hot day so the runners needed to be mindful of the heat whilst taking on the challenge but they all completed (and enjoyed!) the run, with some remarkable times.  For their effort, their friends and family rewarding them by generously sponsoring them over £1,700 - making them one of the most successful fundraising pages on JustGiving in May (the top 3%!). Wow!  Well done runners and thanks for the generosity of your family and friends.  The fundraising page is still open so there is still time to donate on Grow's JustGiving website.

The after-party, with legendary DJ Dominic Benjamin belting out the party tunes to a canal side full of revellers went on to raise more money, taking the fundraising to over £2150 for Core Arts.  The money raised will go towards the Core Sports Department - which supports external trips and activities, giving Core Art's clients experiences in sports such as white water rafting and bouldering which they might not have access to without this support.

Giuliana Molinari,  Deputy Director Core Arts said:
"Core Arts were delighted to be chosen as the beneficiaries of Grow ’s Hackney Half marathon team for the 2nd year in the row.  Well done to all the runners on the day who were amazing . Plus the excellent post event party, entertainment and food. Thank you all for supporting creativity and mental health. "

We also want to thank the runners, supporters and people who came down to Grow on the day.  We look forward to next year!
